The study Wallace did on the original he said it was cut. Don you might ask about paint as well? :text-thankyouyellow:

Does any member recall if this was cut, machine engraved, stamped and so forth. is there actually white paint used in the grooves or is it the brightness of the aluminum that provides the contrast in the writing?

Hi everyone.

As far as I know the letters are cut into the metal after painting and it is the bright raw aluminum that gives the definition.

My 300s, being cleaned, treated and painted, have the Mitchell Logo filled in with the paint. It is still faintly legible.

I really don't know how it's done. I have always done two coats of paint & two coats of clear. After doing my 408 and trying to do the lettering. My next repaint will be one coat Paint (dries 3-4 days) air brush detail white over the lettering (acrylic water base) wipe lightly, 1 or 2 times. Than two coats of clear.
