Mitchell 315

Post by Robcfish »

By brother has a Garcia Mitchell 315. The serial # is 0951565.
To me that says it's a 1955. But they didn't make 315's until 1957. So I thought maybe it's an O but that would put it at a 1975. They only made them until 1967 or 65 . So with that I ask WHAT THE HELL?
I'm totally confused. They made 315 from 55 to 67 I believe. But the serial number on this 315 says it was made in God. I hate attention deficit disorder. Now all the numbers are all jumbled up. Well I looked it up and from what I found it said this serial # is pretty 315's. But it's on a 315???
Thanks again guys. Rob C Fish

Hi Robcfish,

The Mitchell reel dating guide here in the MRM only applies to the Mitchell medium size egg shaped body reels (300,400). The round body Mitchells used a completely different serial # dating scheme that has never been published. Your Brother's Mitchell 315 is from 1961/62 and the first digit is a 0 (Zero).

Kind Regards,
Chris

Well that explains a lot. So is that an o as in oh? Or a 0 as in zero?
Where would a guy like me find a dating list for the round bodies? Because I actually have quite a few?
Thanks again
You guys teach this old dog a new trick every day.

Robcfish,
The "Round Body" Mitchells used a completely different serial number / dating profile. They never used an alpha prefix in their serial numbers even though they were manufactured after 1971 when the alpha prefix re-started for the 300-400 series medium egg body Mitchell reels. There is no published dating guide for the Mitchell CAP, 304, 314 and 340 reels. I can do it with some confidence because I've collected and studied the "Round Body" CAP and Mitchell reels for years but I'm not ready yet to make it public - there's more research to do and collaboration with a couple of Collectors who I consider experts on the topic. When ready, with complete confidence, we'll make it known to the world.

Kind Regards,
Chris
