Reel Identification

Post by mark060 »

I have an old "Mitchell Salt water" reel. I see no model number. There is a number to the left of "Mitchell Salt water". It is difficult to read. When I hold the reel at certain angles and use a magnifying glass, it appears to read A40239. The reel also includes "Made in France" and "US Patent 2.726.052". It does not say Garcia. Does it look like a 1949/50 model 300? My father passed the reel on to me probably in the 1970's and I still use it on occasion. I do not see any other numbers or identification on the exterior.

Welcome to the site!!!!!!! :text-welcomeconfetti: I did a search from Dennis Roberts Value Guide and it falls into the 5th 302 version. Circa. 1956. You posted you found a serial number. It should be stamped on the back end of the side plate between the 2 screws. No Garcia but probably had a glue on "sticker" with Garcia printed on it. They are prone to fall off. Garcia was etched into the cover plate about 1958. Hope this helps........
