BALZER REEL

Post by piscesman »

Had some time on my hands today with the snowstorm and all. Checked the reel mentioned and it has an aluminum tournament spool on it. Probably aftermarket contracted by Mitchell for these reels. 300 with new style anti-reverse AND BALZER Silver sticker on side plate. I have heard of the stickers before but had never seen one. NOTE***- Received this reel when purchased back in 2006. Forgot about it until today. Serial number is a small capital- D098104. Yes, it is correct number. Very clearly stamped under foot. There may be a "dot" between the 1 & 0. Age?? Runs smooth too. TIA.
Kim

BTW- Rotor turns the same way as normal 300 reel.

Kim,
This sounds like an interesting reel. If it's not too much trouble, can we get a picture?

Ok Ted, here goes. Using my phone with resized pictures for proper pixels.
Kim
Notice hole drilled in spool. Not sure why. Very small D in front of serial number. I believe reel was made April 8th, 1974.

Kim,
I really appreciate the pictures. That's sure is an oddball combination. I wonder if the hole was to hold the line with some sort of knot tied on the inside of the spool. Also, I wouldn't think that it would hold all that much line, but I'm not sure how much would be needed for a tournament.

Thanks Again,
Ted

Thanks guys. AS said date on the box is May 6, 2006. Purchased it from Larry C., a friend of Dennis who has passed away a few ago I believe. Met him at the Rochester, NY ORCA show in Sept of 2000. I also bought another reel from him that was shipped together with the BALZER reel. I will post pictures here also. Plus, a rarely done thing from 2006 also. Thanks again.

I am a little late, but back into fishing.
Balzer, Reel made for Germany by Mitchell.
I have Two 300's put one on a Spotted Rod with Anderson #12 line and it is all German.
Other I had a St Croix Yellow Red and Black, looks German.
Only thing I changed was Spools which are Caron/Graphite which in my opinion are Fantastic.
Actually nothing different on Reels, same as our models parts are all the same.
The Euro. Grouse is stamped on both of mine. I gave $60. For each Reel which is a Bargin. :banana-tux: :banana-dreads:
