Can anyone tell me about the 3000 Mitchell?

Hello and thanks for joining our group.

Mitchell never made a model 3000 but Garcia did known as the Garcia 3000. When Mitchell and Garcia parted ways in the late 1970s, Garcia didn't think they were treated fairly so the first thing they did was making Mitchell reels from their vast supply of NOS parts. That's one reason you will find 1970's version Mitchell reels without serial numbers. NOS Housings never had these numbers applied.

That caused more friction between Garcia and Mitchell so they stopped but then Garcia decided to make their own "lookalike" reels. The Garcia 3000 was a copy of the Mitchell 300. Several other copies were also made but I don't remember the model numbers off the top of my head. Maybe someone else will know or find a list of the model numbers and post them here. I will answer this question before some asks it. They are not collectable reels thus making them worth hardly anything. I hope this helped...

FYI: An interesting side note: Garcia owned so many parts that https://www.purefishing.com/ (the current owner of the Mitchell brand) still has a vast supply of NOS Mitchell parts that were made if France. Before you ask, these parts were cherry-picked so all the highly desired parts were sold out years ago.

So are the 3000s just aren’t made that well?

This is just my 2 cents worth.
Back in the day when I was hoarding Mitchell reels, I picked up a couple Garcia 3000s just to do a minor comparison with the Mitchells. If I recall correctly, they were made in Japan so my expectations weren't that high. Ended up, I didn't like the feel of them compared to the older 300s I had, and the bail didn't seem as snappy, but they were useable. Just my opinion.

On eBay 3000s go for around same price as 301. I’ll just stick with old ones

I put together a new in box collection of these reels. there was the 3000 reels and the 3800 reels to replace the 300 and 308 Mitchells. Garcia also sold a line of 9000 series of reels equivalent to the 900, 908, 302, and 306 only they all had skirted spools and all were made in Japan. They didn't have the same quality as the Mitchells but it was just an interesting part of the evolution of the Garcia line. Dan
