Schrack,
I got them both from my flea market guy, after seeing them on ebay. I think I paid $9.00 for both. They bottom one I think I have only used to remove the screws on a 300 oscillation guide, and the side plate on the 308.

Nice video Ted.
I to have taken a broken screwdriver to a point (like an ice pick) for hard to get to corners while cleaning.
While there are several tools in my bag, these are 2 I rely on.

If your trying to get the main gear out. Remove the oscillation slide lock (pin), remove the axle, cam ring assembly, planamatic gear, if you can't pull the main gear out, push it out (I push it out)

Oh ok got ya. Thanks for clearing that up for me. The gear I repaired runs so smooth. I think that when I service my reels, I will start removing the pinion something I haven't done in the past. I kept a cup of the synthetic oil, I'll give them a bath before installing.

Dries' I think Sandman mentioned 17 bearings each side. I kind of figured it out putting them back. Those little buggers started out being a pain n the butt! I finally took a small magnetic screw driver to pick up the bearings, than with my finger behind them put them in place. I put it all together...

richie7799us,
I think you can look into 3 things. Is the anti reverse (A/R) spring in correctly it goes in front of the dog (photo attached)? Maybe the spring tension holding it back. Or it could be a worn dog.
Hope this helps,
Don

A lot of cross referencing between the 400 and 410 for parts. I did see a crack in the plastic at the gear on the axle, 1 400 part used .
I don't really know, but I don't think it is after market.

Yesterday a young lady that I met fluke fishing, gave me a bin of Mitchell stuff. I haven gone through it all yet, but it's user & parts reels. One thing that caught my eye is a pair of 410 reels. The reels have different bails. One has a bumper and larger script. The first 3 pictures are of the...

Thanks guys! Going to walk the stream in the morning, and wet the line. The trout are stocked trout here, and most have been washed out of my area due to the hurricane (flooding). But the camo 308 & this 408, will get a work out during the fall stocking.
