Re: Garcia product 300

Fishabout,
Yes, a lovely 5th version with one of the hard to find oval stickers. How about a shot of the reverse side? I would also be curious to see if the threads on the handle are cut from the hub or if it has a threaded insert.
Thanks for the pics. :text-coolphotos:

UncleRonny, Thanks for posting another great photo of your reel. :text-coolphotos: I can see that your baffle plate was made just prior to the return of the anti-inertia brake, which Mitchell removed and then brought back. Your bail, from what I can make out, has a step which was soon replaced by a ...

Re: 1963 Mitchell 3-0-0

UncleRonny, Thanks for posting photos of a nice 6th version Mitchell 300. Looks like someone was robing parts from it, because it is not only is missing the line guide, but the handle has been replaced with a much later version. If you can post a photo of the baffle plate, under the spool, we can te...

Thank You! Noticed something else different Transfer Gear has small gear on back side. Reel cleaned up great and functions as it should, still a tad stiff, but could be from not being used in a while. I Love bringing these back to life, more fun than fixing Large Aircraft. Purchased one off of EBay, Early Mitchell, unpacked it and about freaked out. For $15.50 got a B82135, which according to Wallace's Ser.# list is rare....... Schrack, I just reviewed Wallaces Dating Guide and I did not see where he indicates that S/N: B82135 is a rare reel. Is this where you read t...

I'm working on an older model 300 and it seems that the Transfer Gear is rubbing on the Drive Gear creating a vibration. Hey Mike, :text-welcomewave: Going by your serial number your reel would date to circa 1957. We (MRM) call that version of the Mitchell 300, the fourth version. Re: Restoration and spool dating

Hi Glen, I know that some graphite spools were first introduced on the 300A series reels around 1984. I say 300 type reels, because the classic 300 model reels were replaced by the 300A designated reels for a time. These first 300A graphite spools had white lettering on the drag nut which was later ...

Dfitz56, Speaking specifically about Mitchell 300 spools, it's pretty tough to date spools. There is no known method I have ever heard of. :( About the only way, that I have come up with for myself, is if I have a reel that I need a spool for, I look for photographs of a mint NIB reel and try and ma...
