Re: Corrosion repair or remediation

Corrosion deposits can be mechanically or chemically removed. The metal is then treated with a conversion coating such as Alodine, which is good for internal surfaces of an aluminum bodied reel which are further protected by a coating of grease. The corrosion on aluminum alloy parts present themselv...

Re: Beginner Basics: which cleaner, grease & oil?

Hi again, I think the reason that some don't like 3 in 1 Oil is because of the 3 functions within the formulation. Lubricate, Clean, Preserve. Basically, it has evaporative properties than leave a film which is to prevent corrosion, but does not lubricate a moving contact point sufficiently. the pro...

Hello Baron, You are doing it right. The Lubricants you use are suitable. The T9 BOESHIELD is intriguing. We use a similar product called FLUID FILM, which is a Lanolin based product. I have all my 300s treated with a corrosion preventative film for Aluminum, called Chromacoat. 3 in 1 oil is not for...

Hello again, I would keep at least one 300 with a few different spools, to have a general all around reel for various species. A shallow spool with 6 pound test line for trout. The original problem is that there was no shim under the rotating head gear. I did take it apart carefully, and cleaned, lubricated at the outset. The reel is really tight. I have not looked at it since I started, since I am still short the bail spring, but I have had some brass shims cut for both t...

Re: How do you describe rotation

The 300 model, the by far most common Mitchell, has an extra gear in the main drive train that reverses the direction of the pinion gear, so it turns the rotating head in the opposite direction. Other Mitchells that are based on the 300 do likewise. They all have the geartrain mounted on the removab...

Re: How do you describe rotation

I would say that rotation should be described by the clockwise or counter clockwise turn of the rotating head as the rod is normally held and from the rear of the reel.

That is the direction that the fisherman sees while the reel is being retrieved.

Hi everyone.

As far as I know the letters are cut into the metal after painting and it is the bright raw aluminum that gives the definition.

My 300s, being cleaned, treated and painted, have the Mitchell Logo filled in with the paint. It is still faintly legible.
