Re: Best reel for fishing with full bail ?
Grahamwin,
I used a Mitchell 300 that I bought when I was released from the Navy back in 1963 till about 5 years ago. It just got too ragged looking. Now when I hit the streams, I take a 410 and an old "Fronce" 308. They both work as well as I could ever desire.

Mates, Well, it took several attempts, but I got this old 330 back in fighting shape thanks to Chris's early trip lever. My biggest problem was that every time I'd tighten the bail mount screw down the whole mechanism would either freeze up, or back the bail mount screw loose. Finally, I decided tha...

Mates, I have picked up a nice 330 that has been forced to open, thus the trip lever and bail wire mount have some teeth missing. rubiconrambler, I'm sure that what you have is a handle off a later model Mitchell, possibly a 400, that is a high speed. Mitchell did sell a longer T-handled accessory handle in the early years, but they didn't have "high-speed" written on them. The plastic t-handle on those handles had a...

I'm sure everybody has their own preferences, and if I had to choose just one version of the full bail models, I'd pick the full bail 4th, 5th, 6th versions. They are the ones with the boomerang shaped anti-reverse lever. Just my opinion.

The Robert's books are well respected and highly sought after, thus they are expensive. You can't beat Wallace Carney's book "The Mitchell Classic 300 Spinning Reel: 1939-1989" if it's just the Mitchell 300 that you are interested in.

Long ago I started asking sellers to ensure the safety of the reel box/reel by shipping well packed inside a larger box. Some sellers take the request as an insult, but I think it's necessary. Some people just don't get it that either the boxes. or tubes are part of the deal.
