Re: Maybe early version 7 ?

Well I'm not bickering or complaining, and I very much appreciate you're opinion and the fact that you shared you're study with the world. It has been very helpful. I as well have several hundred Mitchell reels as well as Garcia Mitchell reels plus a plethora of of other brands of reels. Some assume...

Maybe early version 7 ?

Howdy gentleman. I recently uncovered a Garcia Mitchell 3-0-0 with SN 7958842. Also has a larger 2 stamped on it, located towards the rear of foot. I noticed under dating reels. 1967 SN's 7282575-7895887. And 1968 SN's 7959216-8570529. Then it mentions that the earliest version 7's SN is 7959216. So...

Confusing sn on a 330

One more question before I go. I have a 330 Garcia Mitchell 330 to be exact. According to the glossary the Garcia was added in the late 60's I think is what it said. I have one but the serial number is indicating someone my have put the wrong cover on this body. #3061160 I'm guessing that serial num...

Re: Gold accents

No this is not an April fools prank! I put up the pictures of the 330 autobail that I purchased off of Ebay. When I opened the box and pulled out the reel. I noticed it had gold accents. So I posted it on this forum asking if anyone had any idea what this is. Thank you for the responses, except for ...

What year is this new old stock 330?

Howdy gentleman, and Scott. I just received another new reel, woohoo. This is a a very clean never used 330. I went to look up the year and I'm not sure which year I would be from. Maybe Chris can help me with this serial number debacle. Here it is please tell me what you think. S/N 3061160 It appea...

Re: The unmarked GOLD 330 autobail

Well you make it sound like I have to take you're word for it. I can't prove what it is either way. Thanks Chris. Uh Scott. When is the last time you had you're eyes checked. The bail and fasteners where both gold plated. Yes the gold plating is wearing off as I pointed out several times. But if as ...

Re: The unmarked GOLD 330 autobail

Well I've been a mechanic my entire life as well as my older brother and nearly all my friends. I seriously think you are wrong about plating at home being easy. None of us have ever heard of anyone plating at home. I guess if you where set up to plate, but who is set up to plate besides someone who...

Re: The unmarked GOLD 330 autobail

Sorry Gentlemen
My 330 is not a 1970. I apperantly was reading the very hard to make out serial number upside-down. That being said my Gold accented 330 was born in 1959 #2621466. Talcum powder works amazingly well. Thanks for that tip!!
Sorry about the blunder.

Prince 308

Howdy Gentleman I recently purchased a Prince 308. Upon cleaning said reel. I noticed that unfortunately someone had intentionally scratched or filed the serial number off. I've been trying a few different things to Reed at least what's left of the number, if there's anything left to read. I was jus...

The unmarked GOLD 330 autobail

Howdy gentleman I'm not sure if you men gave up on my gold 330, and didn't read the rest of my posts. So I figured by creating a new topic you all can see my post. Ok upon starting to clean my gold 330 with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol (which cleans the inscription incredibly) I swiped across t...

Re: Gold accents

I thought yah someone probably added the gold parts. But when I started cleaning it with a cotton ball and rubbing alcohol, which claens the inscriptions perfectly. I started cleaning the inscription and noticed it's not turning white. So I stopped cleaning. Grabbed my lighted magnifying glass and j...

Re: Gold accents

Chris Thank you by the way. I thought the same as you about the bail fasteners. The bail was gold as well. I've never seen any home process that would gold plate anything, especially like what's on my reel. They look factory made to me. It really to bad its all faded. I would to have loved to see it...

Mitchell 315

By brother has a Garcia Mitchell 315. The serial # is 0951565. To me that says it's a 1955. But they didn't make 315's until 1957. So I thought maybe it's an O but that would put it at a 1975. They only made them until 1967 or 65 . So with that I ask WHAT THE HELL? I'm totally confused. They made 31...

Re: Gold accents

It is really hard to tell . But from the picture this looks like it was used. But when I got it it looked like it had sat in a widow sil for decades. Hey there I have come up with what I can tell(serial # hard to make out) is a1970 Mitchell 330 that has Gold accents. I didn't notice the gold in the pictures that I purchased it by. But as I unpacked it I was pleasantly surprised. Although the gold is fading, I can't help but to think this might be...

This schematic says number of reels per year. How is it you can date a reel by knowing how many where made per year?
Unless they started in 59 with serial number 1. As that what's going on?

Mitchell 308 and 309. How are these to be dated? The serial numbers on mine indicates there from the 50's. But on the list of reels it says they started producing them in mid 60's. So they apparently are not in the same group of serial numbers as the 300's. Please help me figure this out. Yes I'm ne...
